Almost Done with the Rough Pass

This week has still been a big animation week, our next animatic pass is next Friday, so we are trying to prepare. We want to have the rough animation passes done for all the shots. We also have an extra mini deadline for putting the animatic together by Tuesday to pass to our sound developer.

Starting today, I was moved to Sequence 5, and I essentially restarted the shots. I used the previous work as a baseline, but the timing and the movements were really jarring. So far, I have Shot 4 up to the rough pass standards, and I am working on blocking the rest. It should not be too hard as long as I can get the timing right.

Today we discussed some ideas with the collars on the characters. It includes us changing them, so they are open or closed depending on whether or not the characters are using their power. Finn's collar snaps off in Sequence 2 or 3, and we were going to have it back on by the end of Sequence 3. Now Finn's collar does not come back on until Sequence 5. It makes a lot more sense with the character's actions and the use of the powers in the shots.

I previously worked on Sequences 0-3, and some of them aren't quite where I want to be yet, but Sequence 5 needed to be done more. Granted, Sequences 0-3 are still looking pretty nice, but I got feedback from Brett (the animation professor) that I wanted to work on. Nothing too major but things that would be nice to have done before the polish pass.

I am very excited to be working on Sequence 5. One of the main reasons is that I haven't worked on it before, so it will be new and give me something new to look at that isn't just my shots that I've been working on since the beginning. The other reason is that we actually get to see the characters happy in these shots (besides like the first two of the sequence), which feels really nice after doing the sad shots for so long.

I think this is all the updates for now. Hopefully, everything goes well, and we will have more good updates

next time!
